SIR – It is reported (T&A, January 22) that Baildon Town Council is to spend £3,500 towards an electric car charging point, which is to be installed in the main car park.
Town councillors Joe Ashton and Ian Lyons obviously consider this to be money well spent out of the Town Council budget.
However, district Conservative councillor Debbie Davies has found out that there are a mere seven all-electric vehicles registered in the whole of the Bradford district. Further, I am given to understand that British Gas will currently install an electric vehicle charging point at most homes free of charge.
Considering the alternative needs within Baildon at the moment, surely this substantial spend should not be anywhere near the top of the Town Council’s list of priorities?
Recalling the earlier ridiculous suggestion from Mr Lyons for a costly “firepit” in Ferniehurst Dell, one has to wonder just how well our precept is being managed.
