SIR – The report ‘Pool campaign meeting is held’ (T&A, January 23) incorrectly implies that the plan is to close four pools to tackle maintenance costs while only opening a new city centre pool. This is not the case. The plan is about opening four new pools (three new community pools and a city centre pool) all larger than the facilities they will replace. New pools would open before existing, outdated and costly pools close.

The new pools would be affordable, sustainable provision in accessible locations and provide more swimming capacity for our growing population. The plan is about investing and expanding provision for Bradford’s residents, not curtailing it.
