SIR – The current obsession with the ‘economy’ has now gone well beyond a joke (if it ever was!). So perhaps now is the time for a serious suggestion.
We have the ‘minimum’ wage enacted, so what would be amiss with a ‘maximum’ one also? I am all for people being able to gain financially through their own efforts, but a cap on the preposterous salaries being paid to those in high office, both private and State, might bring us to our senses at last. Honest endeavour would still be rewarded, but exorbitant salaries, and obscene bonuses could be curbed.
Surely, since it was possible to install a minimum wage it should not be any harder to set a maximum one also?
It is time for common sense to prevail, even against all the odds.
