SIR – I know student nurses have to have practical experience, but I have never seen the advantage to a community of having a teaching hospital in their midst. How do Bradford citizens benefit from having an endless stream of trainees who after becoming qualified go off and work in non-teaching hospitals or in private hospitals or abroad?
Then our teaching hospital has to start all over again with a new batch of students.
Wouldn’t it be fairer to spread trainees over the whole country, especially when it comes to practical experience? And as a matter of interest what is the student-teacher ratio in a teaching hospital?
