SIR - I was staggered at the audacity of Liberal Democrat Ian Lyons (Letters, January 13) calling for a clean election campaign.
This is the same Mr Lyons who two years ago distributed a leaflet headed “Tories in Trouble” throughout Baildon causing deep distress to those who he alleged had done wrong. I believe we were asked to “watch this space” for further updates on the fate of these Conservatives, but nothing else materialised.
This is the same Mr Lyons, who last year used the letters page of the T&A to say the Shipley Area Committee (incidentally Conservative-run) had funded the building of a cycle route to a private school in Bingley, a totally misleading disingenuous fabrication. All the Area Committee’s work around safer routes to schools in Bingley, and the rest of the constituency for that matter, centres on our primary and secondary schools.
A leopard can never change its spots. I will leave it for others to judge if Mr Lyons also now has this dilemma.
Coun David Heseltine (Bingley Ward), Shipley Area Committee chairman, c/o City Hall, Bradford
