SIR – Your newspaper recently reported planning consent for construction of another facility within the Bradford Royal Infirmary site. All new-builds are more than welcome in these tough economic times and the health authority is admirable in providing the best service they can for the people of this city.
However, at what juncture does the realisation kick in that the Royal Infirmary ramparts cannot accept any more development? Is the whole place becoming something of a ‘monster’? The more you ‘add’, the more the must ‘control’.
And while the space still available within the hospital parameters may accomodate additional structures, what of the effect on the outside?
The parking challenges for visitors have been well documented – more facilities means more staff, then more patients, and ultimately more stress all round...?
The locality surrounding the footprint of the Infirmary is struggling increasingly, simply to keep moving. Could I suggest something effective is done to neutralise the parking anarchy between Duckworth Lane roundabout and the hospital, in both directions where double yellow lines are routinely ignored and vehicles adandoned to the personal taste of their owner? How many ambulances are delayed each and every day by this nonsense?
