SIR – I am somewhat perplexed, in a time of austerity, that the Council has decided that we have to apply for tip permits. I fail to understand the economic argument that makes this approach sensible. Even if other districts residents are using our tips, surely that is offset by Bradford residents using theirs.
I understood that for environmental purposes it would be better to make it easier for people to both dispose of and recycle waste. I can only think that this will discourage people from using the tip, decrease recycling and increase fly-tipping which has to be more costly to address.
In addition it seems unnecessarily bureaucratic to have to apply for a permit at your chosen tip by filling in a form, taking your last council tax bill and another form of identification. My last three visits have met with no-one there to process my application.
There now appears to be someone sitting in a car checking people’s permits! What is the cost of that, I ask?
If there is sufficient justification for permits, wouldn’t it have been simpler, easier and far less expensive to send it with the next council tax bill?
