SIR – Re ‘Campaigners fight to save post office in Keighley’ (T&A, December 17).
It is necessary to correct some of the misrepresentations made by the Communication Workers Union regarding the public consultation on Keighley Post Office.
It is inaccurate to suggest the decision to relocate has already been taken. As part of the public consultation, Post Office Ltd is required to consider all feedback it receives, including impact on consumers’ usage, physical accessibility of the WH Smith premises, and whether the new premises will have sufficient staff to serve customers in an efficient and high-quality fashion.
As the statutory consumer watchdog, Consumer Futures encourages all customers to respond to the consultation. Post Office Ltd has to consider all feedback, and provide Consumer Futures with a summary. Should we have concerns about any aspect of a proposal, we make this known and seek to have it changed. Although we cannot prevent or overturn a decision made by Post Office Ltd, we thoroughly audit the consultation process and ensure the final decision reflects concerns raised.
We encourage anyone with views to write to: FREEPOST, Your Comments, Post Office Ltd; e-mail comments@postoffice.
