SIR – Recently there was a public consultation at Baildon Library about the Council’s proposal to build approximately 110 houses at Cliffe Lane West, Baildon.
I have serious concerns relating to the proposal to build these new houses in Baildon before the necessary improvements to transport and infrastructure are in place.
For the past 50 years there has been continuous house-building in Baildon yet the basic road structure has not been improved at all. This has taken place at a time of increased car ownership, resulting in roads which are currently gridlocked without any additional traffic.
There is the additional complication of the proposed supermarket developments in Shipley, together with proposals for 3,500 new dwellings on the Canal Road corridor. If this goes ahead without very substantial transport infrastructure improvements, the consequent congestion would have potentially the effect of cutting off Baildon, and for that matter parts of Airedale and Wharfedale, from the centre of Bradford.
A plan based on development before infrastructure is a recipe for disaster that will blight the district for generations to come.
