SIR – May I advise any of your readers who are 70 or over and are required to renew their driving licence not, if they value their sanity, to attempt to do this online.
As this is supposed to be quicker I got my son, who is highly experienced in computing, to do this for me.
Shortly afterwards I got a form for me to check that the details were correct. They’d got my date of birth wrong!
I got my son to send an e-mail stating what was wrong as requested, and today got a second form to check on which my date of birth had been corrected but my reason for sending my licence was stated, not as because I am over 70, but because I wish to change my paper licence for a photo card one!
If this is supposed to speed up the licence renewal procedure, I dread to think how long it would take using a slower method.
