SIR – Coun Davies’s facts are wrong again. She claims £27m is owed to the Council in Council Tax; current arrears are £10m less.
The Council includes collecting these arrears in the budget figures. If they were all collected tomorrow, it would have no impact on the £115m funding gap caused by Government cuts. The idea that it’s an answer to Government cuts is more Tory misinformation.
The previous Conservative Council legacy included excessive management costs and duplication, disastrous privatisation, £8m wasted on scrapped Asset Management fiasco, £3m wage bill for their useless regeneration company. They never cut spending but they raised Council Tax by nearly four per cent a year on average.
Labour is cleaning up the Tory mess, reducing costs, cutting £10m in management cost and by improving efficiency.
Government has cut Council budgets by more than £100m since 2010, with another £115m to come that is the reality which will affect services.
This week, the Tories voted against working together for a better funding deal for the district.
Further testament to their hypocrisy was putting forward numerous amendments to the local plan. Labour backed all but one. They did as they had intended all along and voted against the plan that included the amendments they had asked for.
