SIR – Current Labour Council leader David Green admits (T&A, December 4) that his party covered-up the truth behind the resignation of Paul Flowers to spare him “any personal embarrassment”.
But, wait a minute. They knew that the Rev Flowers was a Methodist minister and therefore would have contact with people of all ages. Further, he was also appointed as chairman of governors of Lidget Green Primary School.
Didn’t the Labour Council members, and also the officers also in the know, consider that they might also have a duty of care to the wider public, and to these two organisations in particular? They all obviously felt that saving face was a far more important issue.
Councillor Green and all others involved should surely be considering their positions. Whether they are fit for purpose in their current roles is highly debatable, and should not be simply brushed under the carpet as Councillor Green obviously wishes.
