SIR – Though I campaigned for George Galloway in the Bradford West by-election, I find myself at odds with him over his support for the contracting out of cinema services at the National Media Museum to outsider profit-hungry corporations.
When George, Gerry Sutcliffe MP and Bradford Council Leader David Green joined with me to sing “Save Our Museum” when it seemed slated for closure, I don’t recall a second line to the song, “So it can be privatised”.
It seems strange for a supposedly left-wing MP to be accepting privatisation of any of our public services, and I’m sure many voters will agree with me that they should continue to be run and held to account by the public.
A number of keen supporters of the museum met with its director, Jo Quinton-Tulloch, at a series of meetings earlier this year where she outlined her vision for its future, but I don’t recall any mention of possible privatisation.
Is this something that has come up since those meetings, or did she deliberately withhold that information from us?
I think we should be told.
