SIR – Every local government worker has lost 18 per cent of her/his earnings since the Coalition came to power in 2010. A shameful 510,000 of them now earn below the Living Wage of £7.65 an hour.
We would like to hear what these pay cuts mean to your readers who work for your local council as Christmas approaches. UNISON is campaigning for a pay rise of at least £1 an hour for all local government workers from April 2014. We would also like to hear how the cuts to council budgets are affecting the services your readers use and how we can help keep council services.
Your readers can write to me at UNISON, 130 Euston Road, London NW1 2AY or e-mail NJCpay2014@unison.co.uk. It would be helpful to know what jobs they do. Replies will be kept confidential if requested. If not, we would like to use readers’ stories in our campaign – no names mentioned!
Heather Wakefield, Head of Local Government, UNISON
