SIR – I would like to send thanks to all those who donated in the South Bradford area during the Poppy Appeal fortnight this year.
The Low Moor, Wyke & District Branch of the Royal British Legion collected a total of £21,195.45 – an increase on 2012 of more than 11 per cent. My branch colleagues cannot thank them all enough. It was a magnificent effort at a time of cutbacks and hardship.
As always, the money will be wisely spent helping our ex-service personnel who need us, from Second World War veterans’ right up to the present-day Afghanistan wounded. We look after any ex-service personnel and their families no matter what age.
I would also like to thank the small army of helpers who braved the wind and cold to stand at the supermarkets (Tesco in Halifax Road, Morrisons in Rooley Avenue and Asda in Dudley Hill) taking the donations the good people of South Bradford made.
Many churches, shops and businesses collected for us as well, and their help is gratefully acknowledged, as is the help of my colleagues who took out the boxes and collected them in afterwards.
If anyone reading this letter thinks they might be able to help us next year – I’m asking for three hours of your time – please feel free to contact me on (01274) 604140. Any time you can give us will be much appreciated.
Thank you.
C A Robinson, chairman, Low Moor, Wyke & District Branch of the Royal British Legion
