SIR – Why the remains of Richard III should be re-buried in Leicester Cathedral just because they were discovered beneath one of the city’s car parks last year beats me.
It’s a bit late in the day to show respect after his naked dead body was ignominiously dumped in a muddy grave by resident monks.
Richard was the son of the Duke of York and married Ann Neville, who spent her childhood at Middleton Castle, in Wensleydale, North Yorkshire, which became Richard’s favourite residence.
He was the last Yorkist monarch and his descendants quite rightly want his remains placed in York Minster.
Unfortunately, the judges at London’s High Court have not yet decided which city should win the day.
Well I have, along with the 73 per cent of Telegraph & Argus readers who on November 26 voted ‘yes’ to the question “Should Richard III’s remains be brought back to Yorkshire?”
Ironically, Richard’s successor Henry VII married Elizabeth of York, bringing an end to the Wars of the Roses! Need I say more?
