SIR – Coun Slater brags that 93 per cent of Bradford’s homes built since 2010 have been on brownfields (Letters November 21). Excellent.
It was also gratifying to see City Hall’s Local Plan rediscovering the brownfield-first policy. However, before this policy is even a month old, the Council is supporting an application to put a factory on the greenfields at Buck Lane.
When so much of Bradford is derelict, why, unlike houses, must factories be built on greenfields? Coun Slater can’t blame pressure from developers; the Council are developing Buck Lane. The Council also owns several nearby brownfields that could easily accommodate the new factories.
The factories on Buck Lane are in receipt of a massive public subsidy. Why couldn’t this money have been used to promote brownfields?
