Employers guilty too SIR – Fifty-five-year-old Ifran Fiaz, an experienced Pakistan International Airlines pilot, was stopped from flying 145 passengers and 11 crew from Leeds-Bradford Airport to Islamabad (T&A, November 23) because he had drunk three-quarters of a litre of whisky in the hours before take off.
He should have known better but his employers are ultimately to blame for allowing their pilot to drink any amount of alcohol, as long as they left a 12-hour gap between drinking and flying.
Mr Fiaz was only jailed for nine months yet his solicitor said he would appeal against the length of the sentence. Absolutely unbelievable.
