SIR – Following on from Terry Tordoff (Letters, November 21) I suggest our university students take a cheap day return to London to visit the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square just to see one painting, The Rokeby Venus, painted by the Spanish artist Diego Velazguez, probably in the early 1630s.

Although I was lucky enough to gain a degree in fine art from Kingston upon Hull Regional College of Art, I spent most of my working life on the shop floor in industry.

The guys I worked with read one of three newspapers: The Star, The Sun or The Daily Mirror. They did not have time to read The Guardian or The Daily Telegraph, they had too much work to do.
