SIR – How sad that the staff of the Pictureville cinema are incapable of organising a simple event.
Saturday night’s 3D showing of Doctor Who: The Day Of The Doctor was supposed to be a ‘global simulcast’ at 19.50. At 19.48 the doors finally opened, then the programme started when about a third of the audience were still unseated.
There were a lot of unhappy people at this event as a result. I have watched with regret over the last couple of years as the museum has laid off enthusiastic and experienced staff and cancelled well-attended annual events.
This event was a simple, straightforward one-off and the shambles they made of it is inexcusable. On the plus side, I was very impressed by the Doctor Who And Me exhibition. A lot of thought and effort has gone into it.

A spokesman for the National Media Museum said: “Unfortunately, we did experience some issues in seating all of our guests for the start of the live screening of Day Of The Doctor on Saturday evening. This was due in part to a busy screening of Gravity immediately preceding it. On the night, our front-of-house team offered all those who were not seated in time for the start of the screening the opportunity to attend the later 9.30pm screening of the episode. The National Media Museum prides itself on offering great films and great service in our three cinemas, and we would like to take this opportunity to apologise to Gareth and to any other guests whose experience did not live up to this standard.”
