SIR – Could someone explain to me why when Bradford Council has and still is suffering from serious cuts in the money it receives from the Government, causing staff redundancies and cuts in services to the public etc, resurfacing minor roads is taking place?
Work recently started on removing the top tarmac surface of Cumberland Road and Harlow Road in Lidget Green. These two roads are in residential areas and are not through routes.
While it must be a benefit for the residents, it does not do anything for the majority of motorists, travelling in and around Bradford, who have to contend with more serious issues with regard to pot-holed roads or botched repairs.
Who makes the priorities when it comes to allocating funds to road surfacing or repairs? Clearly something is amiss when very minor roads are dealt with before the major routes.
Would it be too cynical of me to think that there may be someone of ‘importance’ living in the area concerned? Or is it the old situation where the Council needs to spend the money or lose it in the next round of cuts.
