SIR – In view of not just the recent news about an ex-councillor but by also taking into account past incidents regarding others on the Council, is it not time to look at the process of how councillors are nominated and what information they have to give prior to being put forward?

A proposer, a seconder and the names of ten other people on a piece of paper is not the way to do it. More stringent controls need to be in place and more questions asked about the person.
