SIR – Simon Kemp (Letters, November 15) demonstrates the financial gymnastics that caused the last Labour Government to get us into such a mess in the first place.
He complained that shire counties were being treated more favourably than Bradford Council when it comes to central government grants. The facts of the matter are that in 2010/11 the last Labour Government gave a grant of £126 per head to Wokingham in Berkshire and a grant of £533 per head to Bradford Council. In 2012/13 this Government gave a grant of £108 per head to Wokingham and a grant of £480 per head to Bradford. Of course the amount per head has been reduced by more in Bradford than Wokingham as it is receiving so much more per head in the first place, but it is actually a bigger percentage cut to Wokingham than to Bradford. People should not be misled by the blinkered and twisted economics of the Labour Party.
