SIR – When Philip Bird and UKIP have got us out of the EU, we will no longer be plagued by useless legislation from Brussels.
For example, manufacturers would no longer be required by the food labelling regulations to put nutritional information on their packaging.
Thus we would never know that a serving of Scotts Porage Oats made with water contains 142 calories and no additives. If, however, it is made with semi-skimmed milk, the calorie count rises to 271.
An equivalent amount of dry Kellogg’s cornflakes, however, contains 207 calories, which with milk added rises to 330. In addition, there are any number of additives, including 42 units of vitamin D.
It seems to me, therefore, that Mr Bird’s “silly woman” knows more about feeding her children than he does.
