SIR – Re the emissions problem in Bradford (T&A, October 30). It is a big problem, but I was pleased to read that the Clean Air Act of 1956 had a huge effect, and by the 1970s Bradford was a much healthier place.
Today’s Council cannot hope to have the same impact until it sorts out what is one of the worst road networks of any major city.
A map shows the affected areas where traffic is worst. The ring road is non-existent, masses of traffic lights which cause tail backs to my area, Mayo Avenue.
Traffic comes off the M606 or from Dudley Hill, on to a 30mph dual-carriageway and must get in lane straight away. This is a bottleneck all day long, not just rush hour. The junction with Manchester Road should be a roundabout or even a flyover.
The M606 should be going into the city centre, along Canal Road via a flyover, all the way to the Airedale bypass.
