SIR – Some weeks ago a team of people undergoing community service work completed a worthwhile task in Cottingley Park by restoring/improving the paths running through it.
This, in the main, involved removing creeping grass to a supervisor’s lines and placing the resulting sods in neat piles at side. As this work took a number of days and there was no sign of the mounds of sods disappearing, I asked the supervisor what the plan was, and was politely informed that the Parks Department was coming up behind to clear up.
Weeks went by and the sods were still there, so I tried to make contact with Shipley Parks Department, but had to leave a short but clear message. Several more weeks have gone by since and the dozen or so piles are now making themselves at home by growing into their surroundings.
I appreciate the current pressures on the Council’s department, but the lack of clear thinking here saddens me as the work involved to correct the situation when these mounds become safety hazards, will be significantly more than the half morning it will take if the sods were to be removed this week.
