SIR – After seeing the wonderful opera Aida last night – our 30th anniversary present to ourselves – I think its about time St George's Hall got its act together and take a look at itself with fresh eyes.
I understand its a concert venue, too, so has to be able to take out the seating in the stalls, but please, buy some new ones! Talk about uncomfortable, and when you have to sit through three acts, I was nearly booking in for a hip replacement!
The orchestra pit was surrounded with a shoddy faded velvet curtain haphazardly slung round. It looked atrocious. The whole place needs a refurb.
The Bistro (I use the term loosely) resembles a school cafeteria with oblong tables. The food is overpriced for what you get. We were told the chef had run out of veg and could only give us steamed red cabbage. This was served as a side dish and was a tiny portion – with no sign of a discount.
In this economic climate when going out is a real treat, I think customer feedback is essential and would appreciate these comments taken on board.
