SIR – Philip Bird’s reply to my earlier letter is without doubt a shot in the foot. He is lucky, due to the T&A’s moderator, he did not get the full blast of my letter.

He, like his party, is never wrong, being a Thatcher fan will not win him or his party any votes. Attacking unions is old hat.

I have already said that the way forward is with new ideas, which his party has none, all they are interested in is pulling out of the European Union.

I have never been a fan, but how on earth do we pay for it, as always, the people will pay?

Coming up with new ideas is a must for minority parties like UKIP, so come on, Mr Bird, come up with some so we can all have a laugh.
