SIR – It is with sadness and dismay that I read in the T&A (October 29) that the Council budget cuts mean that the home and mobile library services will be cut.
I am a user of the home library and they have been a godsend, for there is no way I can access the library on my own, and without the home library service I will not get any use of the library services at all.
Very often these are the only people I see from one month to the next, and not only do they bring me the gift of the written word through tapes or CDs, but a cheerful smiling face too. I feel that the cuts are unfair to disabled and elderly people, especially when in the same article the Council speaks of supporting the elderly and the disabled.
How can this be so when they are cutting those support services such as the home library and the mobile library? It is sad to see that because we are in a minority of users it is decided that we can do without altogether.
