SIR – Great to see intrepid cyclist Robert Rhodes looking so well (T&A, October 23) – big respect to him and his epic ride from Land’s End to John ‘O Groats!
We came across each other when he was working for O’Reilly Transport, of Dundalk Ireland. Bob was based in Bradford, delivering and loading trailers from this area and moving them to and from Heysham port.
A quiet chap, but always co-operative and totally dependable. I am not surprised his determination and resolve proved key in completing the cycle ride.
Should he be inclined for a fresh challenge, how about Mizen Head in Cork to Malin Head way up in Donegal? I guarantee him free bed and breakfast should he detour via my family in Mountmellick, Co Laois!
However, I feel calling in to see his former boss, Eugene O’Reilly in Dundalk may be a more extreme wander from the most direct route.
Well done, Robert!
