SIR – Proof positive that George Gideon Osborne is the worst Chancellor in history emerged when two news items confirmed him in the No. 1 slot.

Osborne’s ‘help to buy’ (votes) gambit is proving an absolute winner. House prices in London have increased by ten per cent in just one month. Such is the rush from foreign billionaires to park their dosh in ballooning London property, that ordinary middle-class (probably Tory-voting) families are leaving the capital in droves. The Royal Mail sell-off attracted all the usual spivs and chancers in the form of hedge funds, City of London and Wall Street crooks, and Eastern European and Middle Eastern oligarchs in search of the fast buck. However, an unexpected development saw public pension funds from Germany and France buying up huge amounts of shares.

I feel sure it will be a comfort to Royal Mail employees to know that their their future work efforts will be benefiting German and French pensioners.

Keep it up, Gideon.
