SIR – With reference to the article on Japanese knotweed (T&A, October, 19) it is growing profusely along the river bank in Oakenshaw.
The local authority’s policy appears to be leave it alone unless it comes through the wall into my, and my neighbours’, gardens.
The Environment Agency informed me that it was the responsibility of the landowner to implement control and removal of Japanese knotweed.
However, in the field on the opposite side of the bridleway, the cows have had a real feast, and eaten it down to the ground.
