SIR – Your article referring to Peter Jolly’s Circus raises two points.
Firstly, the protesters at Otley, while openly asking circus staff how their animals were trained, were doing so while already deeming it cruel, demonstrating very clearly far more concern for their protest than what they believed they were protesting about.
Secondly, as your photographer has demonstrated only too well, the animals are in excellent condition and thriving under the dedicated care of a family which has dedicated their lives to them for generations.
Might I implore dissatisfied persons to instead address issues of animal welfare in their own areas, such as PDSA fundraising in Bradford, and let well cared-for animals alone.
