SIR – Our Police Commissioner, voted for by only only a very small turnout, the majority against having an elected one, is fond of making vows and pledges and is a good example of why most people do not want one. His latest one is risible.
When I was employed, the sales director and his staff did not make vows and pledges to make sales, we just got on with the job, knowing we had to be worthy of employment or face dismissal.
So he is going to consult with the electorate to ask what they think of hate crime. What does he expect to hear that will change how how the police tackle it? And consultation is bound to cost money. Just get on with your overpaid job, Commissioner!
