SIR – On recent performance, should Labour change its name to the U-turn Party because it changes direction from day to day?
For example, the public spending cuts announced by the coalition brought howls of protest at first, followed by a grudging recognition that any future Labour government might have to do the same.
Likewise on welfare reforms, Labour had to admit that even they would have to consider something along the same lines.
However, the most outrageous volte-face so far must be on education with the Free Schools, previously much derided by the Shadow Education Secretary, now as acceptable to Labour as they appear to be to many parents.
Is it any wonder then that so many people see no real difference between Labour and Conservative parties other than the colour of their rosettes and have little or no confidence to vote at all any more.
