For the third successive year, Bradford has, quite rightly, been crowned as the Curry Capital of Britain.
Coming just days after the city was facing headlines for all the wrong reasons, this is superb news and keeps us rightly at the head of the table when it comes to curries in the UK.
It is an award that recognises the huge array of Asian restaurants we offer in the district, ranging from some superb high-end dining experiences to the less salubrious but equally delicious formica counter-style cafes.
This quality of food and the diversity of the city and the surrounding district is something we should all be celebrating, and the fact that Bradford is feted above Glasgow, Leeds, Leicester and many other areas famed for curry restaurants is a fantastic achievement.
This paper has joined in the many voices that have advocated more restaurants for Bradford city centre, and what better way would there be to mark this third successive win than for a curry quarter to be set up right in the heart of the city.
The winning bid is a fine example of local businesses co-operating with the Council to raise the profile of the Bradford district.
And while no one would pretend everything is rosy in the city centre, their efforts show what can be achieved when people work at it rather than just being negative for the sake of it.
Bradford is rightly famed for its curries, and this award is further evidence of that. We now need to look at ways of making sure the city and the district exploits this fame in the best possible way.
