SIR – Around 700 workers walked out of the Gdansk shipyard last week to demand unpaid wages.

Can this be the same Polish yard that led the campaign to overthrow the “shackles” of socialism 25 years ago?

I wonder if some of the older workers wistfully recall that in spite of the difficulties they faced under the previous regime at least they got their pay packets on time.
