SIR – I would like, through your paper to thank the wonderful NHS for my recent surgery for a total hip replacement. I believe my treatment and care was second to none.

I am so very grateful to my surgeon, Mr Hahnel and his wonderful team for all their expertise, care and support and also the health workers behind the scenes that don’t usually get recognised.

The result of this surgery is truly amazing. To be free of the very debilitating pain of arthritis is nothing short of miraculous.

So thank you for giving me back my life and putting the spring back in my step.
