SIR – I must applaud the Council’s initiative in looking at prohibiting traffic coming up Cemetery Road from turning right into Clayton Lane.

May I suggest that the Council goes further and stops all traffic from turning right at any junction.

As we all turn left and drive round in ever-decreasing circles this will reach the council’s ultimate goal of reducing traffic around our crowded city. This could be wheeled out across the nation.

We could have another code in the highway book: “Look right, turn left”. This new code would allow drivers to turn without signalling – a practice already followed by the many careful drivers on our roads.
