SIR – I was born in Bradford in 1938 in a street with other families and I learned from an early age what it was to be hungry and what it was to be cold.
Parents did their best and there was good help from other mums as neighbours worked together in those days and through the war years.
I also recall the doctors’ bills had to be paid if there was an illness and I do know mum paid these bills long after the NHS came into power.
As children we were told to respect our elders and other people’s property. We never had enough clothes or shoes and relied on neighbours to pass their children’s things on. But we survived, so I can’t believe people are homeless and starving in this day.
What kind of government is running this country, selling off things like the NHS?
This country needs help now, so let’s all stand together and let Cameron and his cabinet take notice of the people of this country.
