SIR – D S Boyes (Letters, May 25) says he cannot understand the furore over some people attending the 1940s Weekend in Haworth wearing SS uniforms, when no-one seems to object to the re-enactment of the English Civil War of the 1640s.
Doesn’t he realise that those who suffered at the hands of Cromwell are no longer in our midst, whereas there are people still alive, some of whom may have been present at the event in Haworth, who have survived the atrocities perpetrated by a Nazi megalomaniac and his sadistic cohorts, and do not want to be reminded of them.
The least we can do is respect their wishes and ban these uniforms.
