SIR – I fully support S Pickup’s football analogy (Letters, May 25) that the Lib Dems appear to be on the verge of relegation from the (Political) Premiership. This is certainly backed by the current league standings (election polls) and by this season’s match (election) results.
This is hardly surprising as team Lib Dem or as they’re known to their ever-dwindling fan base, the ‘EU yellow backs’ never seem to get a shot on target, while defensively they all over the place scoring own goal after own goal.
There is even talk their manager Nick Clegg could be fired at the end of the season. So the Lib Dems look set for to join league one stalwarts Green and Respect next season. Their place in the (Political) Premiership will be taken by team UKIP, led by the dazzling striker Farage and creative midfielder Jason Smith. Bookies already have them as favorites to lift the European (Election) Championships next season!
