SIR – Seeing Bombardier Ben Parkinson being presented with his MBE by the Prince of Wales highlights the bravery and courage of all wounded and injured soldiers, in particular those who have suffered most severely. Corporal Andy Reid of the Yorkshire Regiment is another who is pulling his life together after life-changing injuries – in his case, the loss of three limbs.
Ben and Andy have been able to return to the love and care of their families, but they are not alone in the challenges they face in moving forward with their lives.
They have had the support of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, which has been the Army’s central charity since 1944 and which will be there for them and their families, for the rest of their lives.
Now, sadly, the family of the brutally murdered soldier Lee Rigby might need our support. We shall be there for them to call upon, if needed, for life.
ABF The Soldiers’ Charity welcomes willing volunteers to assist in vital fundraising. Anybody interested in helping can e-mail wyorkssoldierscharity@gmail.com, or contact the charity’s regional office at Hipswell Lodge, Smuts Road, Catterick Garrison DL9 3AX, or call 01748 874127.
