SIR – I was dismayed by Councillor Slater’s explanation of the increase in the homeless budget which included a lack of 40 supported units and the impact of the welfare changes which came in on April of this year (T&A, May 28).
These explanations do not inspire confidence as its only May, and as such, it’s too early to tell the effect of these welfare changes. Also if Coun Slater is the executive member for housing, then why hasn’t she instigated action about the lack of supported housing?
It’s not value for money to place people in bed and breakfasts, and if I was in her position, I would want a time frame of when the situation would be resolved.
