SIR – With regard to support for men in Nazi uniforms parading on the streets of Haworth and likening their atrocities to the acts of Cromwell’s troops, all I will say is that Cromwell’s troops did not kill or maim any of my family or friends, but the Nazis did.
I, for one, will never forgive or forget. Has Britain lost its backbone? Has the British bulldog lost its teeth?
The apathetic attitude which says, “Oh, let it be. It doesn’t matter any more,” is the same attitude which allows suspected terrorists to roam freely round our streets and we don’t act until they have committed murder.
Had I been well enough to attend the 1940s weekend, I would have made sure to ‘accidentally’ spill a cup of strong coffee down any Nazi uniform that I saw, and my knowing smile and lack of apology, while proudly displaying my British Armed Forces veterans’ badge, would tell them all they needed to know. Come on, put this country first and be proud of it.
