SIR – I am writing to you in regard to Leeds City Council’s plan to increase the speed limit on a stretch of the A658, near Leeds-Bradford Airport, from 30mph to 40mph.
Although the stretch with the new speed limit is only 200m long, I support this move wholeheartedly, which should help speed traffic up as it leaves the airport.
However, I think another reason why the traffic on the A658 runs slowly is the fact that the road narrows from a double carriageway to a single carriageway as you approach Yeadon.
The point where the two lanes merge into one is the cause of a lot of congestion on the road, and I would much prefer it if the Council’s highways department would decide to make the road either a double carriageway or single carriageway along its entire length.
The merging of the lanes causes a lot of trouble for motorists, so I shall keep pushing for the Council to take action on this matter.
