SIR – One of your excellent journalists, Helen Mead, recently stated how nice it was to receive a handwritten letter (T&A, April 22). Helen also wrote a column about good grammar and punctuation which help to make better reading and complete the flow of the letter.
As a schoolgirl, I soaked up English language and English literature. In my privileged position as fundraising manager for our beautiful Grade II-listed village hall, all applications and letters I send to important funders, for possible funding, are hand-written.
I always receive a reply. People will drop an e-mail in the bin but not a handwritten letter.
