SIR – There have been months of debate and discussion in parliament regarding same sex marriage.
Whether you agree or disagree with the proposal, the amount of time and money expended by MPs of all parties is nothing short of a disgrace.
I fully accept this issue is important to parts of our society, but bearing in mind our current predicaments, in the grand scheme of things it is a relatively minor issue to the vast majority of the people in the real world.
There are surely far more urgent issues deserving this amount of parliamentary time. Bearing in mind the hours that most MPs seem spend in Westminster and their generous holiday entitlement, it’s not as if there is a great deal of debating time to spare.
There has never been a group of politicians of almost every party that are so far out of touch with the thoughts and aspirations of the ordinary man in the street.
