SIR – ‘Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them’ in City Park, Bradford on the warm afternoon of Pentecost Sunday, May 19. In a moving re-creation of Acts 2:3 in the Bible, noisy blasts of fire complemented by the ever-changing fountains of water around the mirror pool provided the setting for Pentecost Praise led by the Rev Robin Gamble.
About 1,000 enthusiastic worshippers sang and waved while a suitably-amplified band led us in hymns and songs that could be heard throughout the centre of the city.
The Bishop spoke, the young soaked themselves in the unpredictable fountains, teenagers swayed and danced energetically, adults sang. There were people of all ethnic groups enjoying themselves.
It was a joyful, comprehensive, witness to the spirit of God in the centre of Bradford.
Let us see many more such celebrations – from all our faiths!
