SIR – Re Mr Watson’s letter (Money poorly spent? T&A Letters, May 17), to criticise new pedestrian lights on Valley Road due to Green Lane/Otley Road Baildon junction not as yet having traffic lights shows a typical dog in the manger attitude on his part. “If we can’t have a safer junction why should Valley Road have lights?”
Perhaps Mr Watson has failed to realise a large Newvaarta estate along Valley Road comprising elderly in some cases and disabled who live here, and where the nearest shopping centre is Shipley and only one direct bus, 737 airport, only every hour in this 21st century.
To deny one community and pit against another solves nothing.
